Benign Colony Count Dilution Plate Factor Tool

Observed benign-sample colony concentration from supplied counted volume and dilution, preserving signed blank correction without a growth protocol.

Description

Subtract blankColonies from integer colonies, then divide by platedVolume × dilutionFraction for unitsPerVolume.

Blank subtraction and recovery correction change a measured count's numerator before volume normalization. A negative corrected value can reveal measurement noise or an incompatible correction.

Subtract blankColonies from integer colonies, then divide by platedVolume × dilutionFraction for unitsPerVolume.

When to use this tool

Use Benign Colony Count Dilution Plate Factor when you need a supplied assay recovery or volume-normalization term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter colonies, platedVolume, dilutionFraction, blankColonies. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read blankCorrected, unitsPerVolume. Use the output convention below.

Subtract blankColonies from integer colonies, then divide by platedVolume × dilutionFraction for unitsPerVolume.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The dilution fraction is in (0, 1]; negative blank-corrected values are retained. This is benign assay arithmetic without diagnostic or viability interpretation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review blank and recovery measurements and use a validated assay-specific analysis for scientific interpretation.
