Description
Divide nonnegative observedDuration by positive windowDuration for exposureFactor.
A share divides an included amount by a declared total. An empty total is mathematically different from an observed zero share and may require an explicit availability flag.
Divide nonnegative observedDuration by positive windowDuration for exposureFactor.
When to use this tool
Use Rate Window Exposure Factor when you need a proportion with a clearly defined denominator.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter observedDuration, windowDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read exposureFactor. Use the output convention below.
Divide nonnegative observedDuration by positive windowDuration for exposureFactor.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| observedDuration | Observed Duration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| windowDuration | Window Duration | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| exposureFactor | Exposure Factor | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use matching time units; factors above one are allowed and no interval overlap or event-rate normalization is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the underlying counts or quantities and report missing-denominator cases separately when aggregating results.
