Rate Window Boundary Weight Tool

Split a uniform rate-window exposure at an explicit boundary; point membership has zero duration.

Description

Split the window at boundary, clipping earlierWeight to zero or one outside the window and returning laterWeight as its complementary duration share.

Time-window accounting separates gross duration, overlap, pauses, and eligible exposure. A fraction is interpretable only when its numerator and denominator use compatible intervals and units.

Split the window at boundary, clipping earlierWeight to zero or one outside the window and returning laterWeight as its complementary duration share.

When to use this tool

Use Rate Window Boundary Weight when you need to reconcile explicit durations or interval support.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter windowStart, windowEnd, boundary. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read earlierWeight, laterWeight. Use the output convention below.

Require windowEnd > windowStart. Split the window at boundary, clipping earlierWeight to zero or one outside the window and returning laterWeight as its complementary duration share.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Weights describe uniform time exposure, not the distribution of events or observations within the window.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use timestamped intervals to calculate overlap unions when summed durations and supplied corrections are insufficient.
