Histogram Bin Exposure Share Tool

Report one histogram bin’s explicitly supplied exposure share, with an undefined flag for no exposure.

Description

Sum nonnegative binExposures and select a valid zero-based bin.

A histogram partitions a numeric range into finite buckets and possibly an open-ended bucket. Exposure shares are different from event counts and probability density.

Sum nonnegative binExposures and select a valid zero-based bin.

When to use this tool

Use Histogram Bin Exposure Share when you need a bucket-layout or exposure-denominator check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter binExposures, selectedBin. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read totalExposure, binShare, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Sum nonnegative binExposures and select a valid zero-based bin. Divide its exposure by a positive total; otherwise return binShare zero and defined false.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The share is exposure-based, not automatically an event frequency or probability density.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Validate bucket ordering and boundary conventions and combine exposures with the appropriate observed counts.
