Mae Denominator Weight Sum Tool

Sum nonnegative observation weights for a weighted MAE denominator, requiring positive total weight.

Description

Require nonnegative weights with a positive finite sum and return weightSum.

Weights express relative contributions. Dividing by their total creates weights that sum to one when the total is positive, but it does not establish that the original weighting scheme is suitable for the decision.

Require nonnegative weights with a positive finite sum and return weightSum.

When to use this tool

Use Mae Denominator Weight Sum when you need to normalize or inspect a supplied collection of nonnegative weights.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter weights. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read weightSum. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This supplies a denominator only; error contributions, support alignment, normalization, and a complete weighted MAE are separate.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Document how the weights were chosen and test the sensitivity of the complete weighted result.
