Value Weight Criterion Normalizer Tool

Normalize one explicitly supplied criterion weight by a compatible positive total without selecting ethical priorities.

Loading tool…

Description

Require criterionWeight between zero and positive totalWeight and divide for normalizedWeight.

Weights express relative contributions. Dividing by their total creates weights that sum to one when the total is positive, but it does not establish that the original weighting scheme is suitable for the decision.

Require criterionWeight between zero and positive totalWeight and divide for normalizedWeight.

When to use this tool

Use Value Weight Criterion Normalizer when you need to normalize or inspect a supplied collection of nonnegative weights.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter criterionWeight, totalWeight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read normalizedWeight. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The total and criterion values are supplied; no other criteria, ethical relevance, preference validity, or appropriate allocation is evaluated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Document how the weights were chosen and test the sensitivity of the complete weighted result.
