Glutathione Redox Index

Screen glutathione redox ratio against a supplied log10 threshold.

Description

Glutathione redox-index screening reports a simple reduced-to-oxidized ratio and its base-ten logarithm.

Glutathione redox-index screening reports a simple reduced-to-oxidized ratio and its base-ten logarithm. The user supplies the minimum logarithmic index.1

Screen glutathione redox ratio against a supplied log10 threshold.

When to use Glutathione Redox Index

Use this tool to screen glutathione redox ratio against a supplied log10 threshold.

Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.

How to use Glutathione Redox Index and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.
  2. Enter reducedGsh, oxidizedGssg, minimumLog10Ratio using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read gshToGssg, log10Ratio, passes. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
reducedGshReduced gshnumberRequired
oxidizedGssgOxidized gssgnumberRequired
minimumLog10RatioMinimum log 10 rationumberRequired

Enter strictly positive compatible concentrations and finite minimum index. Return ratio, logarithmic index and inclusive ≥minimum flag.

ratio=GSH/GSSG; index=log10(ratio)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

This is not the GSH²/GSSG term used in some equilibrium expressions and is not a Nernst potential or clinical assessment.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use NADH NAD Redox Index: Compare cellular NADH/NAD+ log10 ratio to a supplied reference. For a complementary task, use Ketone Redox Ratio: Compute the β-hydroxybutyrate/acetoacetate redox proxy.
