Description
Divide nonnegative sourceDuration by positive totalQuotedDuration, requiring source duration no greater than total.
Media proportions depend on whether the denominator includes excluded material, inaudible markers, duplicated roles, or only eligible duration. These choices answer different analytical questions.
Divide nonnegative sourceDuration by positive totalQuotedDuration, requiring source duration no greater than total.
When to use this tool
Use Quote Source Duration Share when you need a media-study proportion with an explicit counting basis.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter sourceDuration, totalQuotedDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read share. Use the output convention below.
Divide nonnegative sourceDuration by positive totalQuotedDuration, requiring source duration no greater than total.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| sourceDuration | Source Duration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| totalQuotedDuration | Total Quoted Duration | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| share | Dimensionless fraction under the stated denominator policy. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use one time unit; a duration share does not assess representativeness, attribution, or rights to reuse a quotation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
