List Single Weight Renormalization Tool

Compute list single weight renormalization from explicit bounded inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Replace the selected nonnegative weight, sum the resulting weights, require a positive total, and divide every weight by that total.

Replacing one nonnegative weight changes the total used to normalize every weight. A zero total cannot define a normalized distribution.

Replace the selected nonnegative weight, sum the resulting weights, require a positive total, and divide every weight by that total.

When to use this tool

Use List Single Weight Renormalization when you need to renormalize a weight vector after one explicit replacement.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter weights, index, replacement. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read normalized. Use the output convention below.

Replace the selected nonnegative weight, sum the resulting weights, require a positive total, and divide every weight by that total.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This normalizes all entries after one replacement; a zero total is rejected and no probabilistic interpretation or rounding rule is imposed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the interpretation of weights and use a documented rounding policy if exact displayed totals matter.
