Description
Subtract selected from population for available and compare requested inclusively with that remainder.
List-length arithmetic predicts how many positions a structural operation will create, discard, or leave unused. Empty lists and exact multiples need explicit counting conventions.
Subtract selected from population for available and compare requested inclusively with that remainder.
When to use this tool
Use List Sampling Without Replacement Budget when you need a list operation's count or padding budget.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter population, selected, requested. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read available, feasible. Inspect feasible before interpreting the associated values.
Subtract selected from population for available and compare requested inclusively with that remainder. Counts are nonnegative integers and selected cannot exceed population.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| population | Population | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| selected | Selected | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| requested | Requested | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| available | Available | Required. Safe integer. |
| feasible | Feasible | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This checks a count budget without drawing samples, verifying distinct selections, or providing randomness.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect actual list lengths and choose the operation's empty-input and tail policies before transforming values.
