Description
Choose the maximum nonnegative row length, or zero for no rows.
List-length arithmetic predicts how many positions a structural operation will create, discard, or leave unused. Empty lists and exact multiples need explicit counting conventions.
Choose the maximum nonnegative row length, or zero for no rows.
When to use this tool
Use List Ragged Row Padding Budget when you need a list operation's count or padding budget.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter lengths. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read width, perRow, total. Use the output convention below.
Choose the maximum nonnegative row length, or zero for no rows. Subtract each length from that width for perRow padding and sum the differences.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| lengths | Lengths | Required. Array of safe integer; maximum items 256. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| width | Width, count, or interval span under the stated formula. | Required. Safe integer. |
| perRow | Per Row | Required. Array of safe integer; maximum items 256. |
| total | Total | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This counts padding cells without constructing rows or selecting a fill value.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect actual list lengths and choose the operation's empty-input and tail policies before transforming values.
