Archive Folder Leaf Count Crosswalk

Convert an explicit leaf count to a supplied one-side or two-side counting basis without inferring blank or missing pages.

Description

Convert a recorded leaf count to potential page sides.

Library records distinguish copies, serial issues, leaf counts, field-state labels and edition-specific rights notes. A leaf may have two potential sides without both being printed or numbered. Due-date and hold-renewal arithmetic uses supplied calendar conventions rather than determining lending terms or access rights.

Convert a recorded leaf count to potential page sides.

When to use this tool

Use Archive Folder Leaf Count Crosswalk when you already have recordedLeaves, countBothSides and need to convert a recorded leaf count to potential page sides.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter recordedLeaves, countBothSides. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read potentialPageSides. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative safe whole leaves; multiply by two when countBothSides, otherwise one, using BigInt and a safe integer output.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
recordedLeavesRecorded LeavesRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Potential sides are not verified pagination, printed pages or text-bearing surfaces; unsafe totals are rejected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the catalogue, physical item, field definition and original rights or lending record for actual status. Use the relevant complete cataloguing or calendar rule when a source label or supplied date offset is insufficient.
