Description
Extend a hold expiry by supplied calendar days and measure remaining days.
Library records distinguish copies, serial issues, leaf counts, field-state labels and edition-specific rights notes. A leaf may have two potential sides without both being printed or numbered. Due-date and hold-renewal arithmetic uses supplied calendar conventions rather than determining lending terms or access rights.
Extend a hold expiry by supplied calendar days and measure remaining days.
When to use this tool
Use Hold Request Expiry Renewal Margin when you already have asOfDate, originalExpiryDate, renewalDays and need to extend a hold expiry by supplied calendar days and measure remaining days.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter asOfDate, originalExpiryDate, renewalDays. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read renewedExpiryDate, signedDaysRemaining. Use the output convention below.
Require real UTC original/as-of dates and nonnegative safe whole renewalDays; add renewal days, require year 0000..9999 and return renewed date plus renewed-asOf days.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- This does not authorize renewal or determine library rules, business days, time-of-day expiry or actual availability.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check the catalogue, physical item, field definition and original rights or lending record for actual status. Use the relevant complete cataloguing or calendar rule when a source label or supplied date offset is insufficient.
