Laser Label Coverage

Compare required laser labels with labels documented at the installation.

Description

Laser-label coverage compares a supplied installation label inventory with a supplied requirement list.

Laser-label coverage compares a supplied installation label inventory with a supplied requirement list. Coverage concerns names rather than label content or placement.1

Compare required laser labels with labels documented at the installation.

When to use Laser Label Coverage

Use this tool to compare required laser labels with labels documented at the installation.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use Laser Label Coverage and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter requiredLabels, documentedLabels using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read coveragePercent, matched, missing, unexpected. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
requiredLabelsRequired labelslist of stringRequired
documentedLabelsDocumented labelslist of stringRequired

Enter a nonempty required list and a documented list, which may be empty. Trim each label, reject blank entries and match case-insensitively in en-US. Deduplicate by normalized key: retain first key position but last trimmed spelling. Return matched and missing required spellings in required order, unexpected documented spellings in documented order, and percentage of unique requirements matched.

coverage%=100 matchedUnique/requiredUnique

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No label text, wavelength, class, placement, visibility or regulatory compliance is verified.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Laser Safety Audit: Compare required laser-safety controls with documented controls. For a complementary task, use Embedded-Service Class Check: Estimate enclosure-accessible power and compare it with a caller-supplied class limit.
