Laser Safety Audit

Compare required laser-safety controls with documented controls.

Description

A laser-safety control audit checks whether named required controls appear in documented records.

A laser-safety control audit checks whether named required controls appear in documented records. List coverage is one documentation check within a wider safety process.1, 2

Compare required laser-safety controls with documented controls.

When to use Laser Safety Audit

Use this tool to compare required laser-safety controls with documented controls.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use Laser Safety Audit and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter requiredControls, documentedControls using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read coveragePercent, matched, missing, unexpected. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

requiredControlsRequired controlslist of stringRequired
documentedControlsDocumented controlslist of stringRequired

Enter a nonempty required list and a documented list, which may be empty. Trim each label, reject blank entries and match case-insensitively in en-US. Deduplicate by normalized key: retain first key position but last trimmed spelling. Return matched and missing required spellings in required order, unexpected documented spellings in documented order, and percentage of unique requirements matched.

coverage%=100 matchedUnique/requiredUnique

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No controls are inspected or tested, and the required list is supplied rather than derived from standards. This does not certify installation safety.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Laser Label Coverage: Compare required laser labels with labels documented at the installation. For a complementary task, use Required Optical Density: Calculate required optical density from unprotected and permissible exposure values in matching units.
