Copper-Vapor Pulse Energy

Calculate pulse energy and rectangular peak power for a copper-vapor pulse train.

Description

Pulse-train energy equals average power divided by repetition rate.

Pulse-train energy equals average power divided by repetition rate. Rectangular peak power then divides pulse energy by duration.1

Calculate pulse energy and rectangular peak power for a copper-vapor pulse train.

When to use Copper-Vapor Pulse Energy

Use this tool to calculate pulse energy and rectangular peak power for a copper-vapor pulse train.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use Copper-Vapor Pulse Energy and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter averagePowerWatts, pulseRateHertz, pulseWidthSeconds using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read pulseEnergyJoules, rectangularPeakPowerWatts. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
averagePowerWattsAverage power (W)number; minimum: 0Required
pulseRateHertzPulse rate (Hz)number; minimum: 0Required
pulseWidthSecondsPulse width (s)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonnegative average watts and positive rate/width. Return joules and peak watts.

energy=averagePower/rate; rectangularPeak=energy/width

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The pulse is assumed rectangular. Other shape factors, spectral lines and copper-vapor dynamics are not modeled.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Q-Switch Peak Power: Calculate triangular-pulse peak power and pulse-train average power. For a complementary task, use Noise-Like Pulse Duty Factor: Calculate noise-like burst duty factor, burst energy, and in-burst average power.
