Q-Switch Peak Power
Calculate triangular-pulse peak power and pulse-train average power.
Description
Pulse peak power depends on the assumed temporal shape.
Pulse peak power depends on the assumed temporal shape. This tool uses a triangular pulse whose full base width makes energy half peak times width.1
Calculate triangular-pulse peak power and pulse-train average power.
When to use Q-Switch Peak Power
Use this tool to calculate triangular-pulse peak power and pulse-train average power.
Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
How to use Q-Switch Peak Power and understand its results
- Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
- Enter pulseEnergyJoules, pulseWidthSeconds, repetitionRateHertz using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read peakPowerWatts, averagePowerWatts. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| pulseEnergyJoules | Pulse energy (J) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| pulseWidthSeconds | Triangular pulse width (s) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| repetitionRateHertz | Repetition rate (Hz) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter nonnegative pulse energy/rate and positive width in seconds. Return peak and average watts.
peakPower=2energy/width; averagePower=energy×rate Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| peakPowerWatts | Triangular-model peak power (W) | number; minimum: 0 |
| averagePowerWatts | Average power (W) | number; minimum: 0 |

Do not substitute FWHM from a different pulse shape without conversion. Q-switch dynamics and beam area are excluded.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
