Planting Triangle Row Density Factor Tool

Equilateral triangular planting lattice, ignoring bed boundaries.

Loading tool…

Description

For positive spacing, return spacing × sqrt(3)/2 between triangular rows and density 2/(sqrt(3) × spacing²).

Spacing calculations place ideal points or modules within a stated geometric extent. End margins, row patterns, and partial border positions affect the count.

For positive spacing, return spacing × sqrt(3)/2 between triangular rows and density 2/(sqrt(3) × spacing²).

When to use this tool

Use Planting Triangle Row Density Factor when you need an explicit planting or paving layout-count term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter spacing, area. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read rowSpacing, density, approximatePlants. Use the output convention below.

For positive spacing, return spacing × sqrt(3)/2 between triangular rows and density 2/(sqrt(3) × spacing²). Multiply density by area for approximatePlants.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The estimate is fractional and ignores boundary losses, obstacles, growth, and species requirements.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete site layout that includes boundaries, obstacles, growth, joints, and installation allowances.
