Description
Measure a drain inlet lip's signed offset from finished surface.
Landscape geometry distinguishes plan area, depth, void fraction, grade, center spacing and nominal clearances. A horizontal-per-vertical slope is the inverse orientation of rise/run, and post counts differ from bay counts. Supplied geometric terms do not establish stability, drainage, accessibility or safe construction.
Measure a drain inlet lip's signed offset from finished surface.
When to use this tool
Use Landscape Drain Inlet Lip Offset when you already have finishedSurfaceElevation, inletLipElevation and need to measure a drain inlet lip's signed offset from finished surface.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter finishedSurfaceElevation, inletLipElevation. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.
Return inletLipElevation-finishedSurfaceElevation on one common vertical datum.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| finishedSurfaceElevation | Finished Surface Elevation | Required. Finite number. |
| inletLipElevation | Inlet Lip Elevation | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| signedGap | Signed Gap | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- No inlet, runoff, capacity, survey accuracy or suitable lip height is assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a verified site survey and complete dimensioned layout for a landscape design. Include material behavior, drainage, ground conditions and the applicable requirements when local volumes, grades or spacing calculations cannot answer the full question.
