Description
Calculate equal nominal riser height between two supplied landscape levels.
Landscape geometry distinguishes plan area, depth, void fraction, grade, center spacing and nominal clearances. A horizontal-per-vertical slope is the inverse orientation of rise/run, and post counts differ from bay counts. Supplied geometric terms do not establish stability, drainage, accessibility or safe construction.
Calculate equal nominal riser height between two supplied landscape levels.
When to use this tool
Use Outdoor Stair Landscape Level Gap when you already have upperLevel, lowerLevel, riserCount and need to calculate equal nominal riser height between two supplied landscape levels.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter upperLevel, lowerLevel, riserCount. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read totalRise, equalRiserHeight. Use the output convention below.
Require upper>=lower and safe whole riserCount>=1; rise=upper-lower and equal height=rise/count.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| upperLevel | Upper Level | Required. Finite number. |
| lowerLevel | Lower Level | Required. Finite number. |
| riserCount | Riser Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| totalRise | Total Rise | Required. Finite number. |
| equalRiserHeight | Equal Riser Height | Required. Finite number. |

- This does not choose riser count, tread geometry, code compliance or a safe stair design.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a verified site survey and complete dimensioned layout for a landscape design. Include material behavior, drainage, ground conditions and the applicable requirements when local volumes, grades or spacing calculations cannot answer the full question.
