Table Total Check
Sum supplied table rows and compare the result with a published total.
Description
A table total reconciliation compares the sum of supplied row values with a published total.
A table total reconciliation compares the sum of supplied row values with a published total. A tolerance accommodates an explicitly chosen numerical difference.1
Sum supplied table rows and compare the result with a published total.
When to use Table Total Check
Use this tool to sum supplied table rows and compare the result with a published total.
Prepare the text, recorded observations, aligned figures or editorial criteria requested. Confirm what each label, count, timestamp or supplied flag represents before interpreting the result.
How to use Table Total Check and understand its results
- Prepare the text, recorded observations, aligned figures or editorial criteria requested. Confirm what each label, count, timestamp or supplied flag represents before interpreting the result.
- Enter rowValues, publishedTotal, tolerance using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read computedTotal, difference, matchesWithinTolerance. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| rowValues | Table row values | list of number | Required |
| publishedTotal | Published total | number | Required |
| tolerance | Allowed difference | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter finite signed rows and published total with nonnegative tolerance. Empty rows sum to zero. Return calculated total, signed difference and inclusive gate.
difference=Σrows−published; matches=|difference|≤tolerance Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| computedTotal | Computed total | number |
| difference | Computed minus published | number |
| matchesWithinTolerance | Matches within tolerance | boolean |

No table parsing, rounding policy or completeness of the underlying records is checked.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Box Score Reconciliation: Reconcile period-level scoring with a published team total. For a complementary task, use Audience Segment Allocation: Allocate integer audience slots proportionally with largest remainders.
