Audience Segment Allocation

Allocate integer audience slots proportionally with largest remainders.

Description

Audience segment allocation distributes an integer total according to nonnegative weights.

Audience segment allocation distributes an integer total according to nonnegative weights. Largest remainders reconcile rounding so the allocations add to the total.1

Allocate integer audience slots proportionally with largest remainders.

When to use Audience Segment Allocation

Use this tool to allocate integer audience slots proportionally with largest remainders.

Prepare the text, recorded observations, aligned figures or editorial criteria requested. Confirm what each label, count, timestamp or supplied flag represents before interpreting the result.

How to use Audience Segment Allocation and understand its results

  1. Prepare the text, recorded observations, aligned figures or editorial criteria requested. Confirm what each label, count, timestamp or supplied flag represents before interpreting the result.
  2. Enter totalSlots, segmentWeights using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read allocations, allocatedTotal. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Enter nonempty finite nonnegative weights with positive sum and nonnegative integer total. Return integer allocations in input order and their sum; equal remainder ties favor the earlier index.

quota_i=total×weight_i/Σweights; floor then award largest fractional remainders

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No segment identities, capacity limits, fairness criterion or audience sampling are modeled.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Donor Concentration Analysis: Aggregate contributions by donor and calculate largest-share and Herfindahl concentration measures. For a complementary task, use Crosstab Suppression: Identify crosstab cells below a caller-supplied suppression threshold.
