Description

Divide bilateralExports by homeExports and partnerImports by worldImports.

A trade index or share compares values on a declared price, currency, period, and coverage basis. Changing a denominator or quote orientation can change the interpretation substantially.

Divide bilateralExports by homeExports and partnerImports by worldImports.

When to use this tool

Use Trade Intensity One Partner Share when you need an explicit trade-ratio or index component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter bilateralExports, homeExports, partnerImports, worldImports. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read partnerExportShare, partnerImportShare, intensity. Use the output convention below.

Divide bilateralExports by homeExports and partnerImports by worldImports. Divide the first share by the second for intensity, with positive totals and consistent subset bounds.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Trade flows must share period, valuation, and coverage conventions; an intensity ratio does not identify causal trade barriers.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check source statistical definitions and compatible bases before comparing countries, partners, or time periods.
