Description

Split scrap by recoveredFraction, calculate remaining otherLoss, and subtract recovered scrap from input for netMaterialUse.

A material balance tracks input, output, recovery, and unaccounted quantities on a common mass basis. A recovered amount is not automatically suitable for reuse.

Split scrap by recoveredFraction, calculate remaining otherLoss, and subtract recovered scrap from input for netMaterialUse.

When to use this tool

Use Scrap Recovery Material Balance Term when you need a supplied material-reconciliation or reuse share.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter inputMass, goodProductMass, scrapMass, recoveredFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read recoveredMass, unrecoveredScrap, otherLoss, netMaterialUse. Use the output convention below.

Require goodProductMass + scrapMass no greater than inputMass. Split scrap by recoveredFraction, calculate remaining otherLoss, and subtract recovered scrap from input for netMaterialUse.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Recovery is supplied and may not imply reusable quality; this is one mass balance without energy, process loss, or regulatory suitability analysis.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify measurements, losses, and material qualification before interpreting recovery as usable production input.
