Enclosure Gasket Compressed Thickness

Apply an explicit compression fraction to gasket thickness without selecting sealing requirements.

Description

Calculate gasket thickness after a supplied compression fraction.

Product geometry depends on reference surfaces, mating dimensions, signed offsets, compression assumptions and material behavior. A clearance comparison or nominal engagement depth describes a limited scalar relation. Physical fit, ergonomics, sealing, strength and electrical compatibility need the complete product and its verified conditions.

Calculate gasket thickness after a supplied compression fraction.

When to use this tool

Use Enclosure Gasket Compressed Thickness when you already have uncompressedThickness, suppliedCompressionFraction and need to calculate gasket thickness after a supplied compression fraction.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter uncompressedThickness, suppliedCompressionFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read compressedThickness, compressionAmount. Use the output convention below.

Require thickness>=0 and fraction in [0,1]; compressed=thickness*(1-fraction), compression=thickness*fraction.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
uncompressedThicknessUncompressed ThicknessRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
suppliedCompressionFractionCaller-supplied [0,1] thickness reduction; no elasticity or seal performance model.Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
compressedThicknessCompressed ThicknessRequired. Finite number.
compressionAmountCompression AmountRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The compression is assumed, not a material constitutive model; sealing, recovery, loads and acceptable design are not assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect actual component specifications and a complete dimensioned assembly for design decisions. Add material, loading, tolerance and operating-condition analysis when a local gap, radius ratio or supplied compression fraction cannot establish performance.
