Fastener Counterbore Depth Head Margin

Compare explicit counterbore depth and fastener head height without choosing dimensions or assessing joint strength.

Description

Calculate counterbore recess margin relative to a supplied fastener-head height.

Product geometry depends on reference surfaces, mating dimensions, signed offsets, compression assumptions and material behavior. A clearance comparison or nominal engagement depth describes a limited scalar relation. Physical fit, ergonomics, sealing, strength and electrical compatibility need the complete product and its verified conditions.

Calculate counterbore recess margin relative to a supplied fastener-head height.

When to use this tool

Use Fastener Counterbore Depth Head Margin when you already have counterboreDepth, headHeight and need to calculate counterbore recess margin relative to a supplied fastener-head height.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter counterboreDepth, headHeight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read recessMargin. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative depths/heights; return counterboreDepth-headHeight.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative margins are retained; no fastener geometry, strength, tool access or safe installation is checked.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect actual component specifications and a complete dimensioned assembly for design decisions. Add material, loading, tolerance and operating-condition analysis when a local gap, radius ratio or supplied compression fraction cannot establish performance.
