Description

Subtract clampedDiameter from positive freeDiameter for diameterReduction and divide by freeDiameter for reductionFraction.

A simple strain, compression, or neutral-axis formula models only part of a material's behavior. Geometry, loading, elasticity, and fatigue assumptions govern how the result can be used.

Subtract clampedDiameter from positive freeDiameter for diameterReduction and divide by freeDiameter for reductionFraction.

When to use this tool

Use Cable Strain Relief Clamp Compression when you need one explicit deformation-model component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter freeDiameter, clampedDiameter. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read diameterReduction, reductionFraction. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Expansion yields a negative reduction; this diameter ratio is not cable stress, sealing, pullout strength, or safe clamp compression.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use validated material data and an appropriate mechanical analysis and test for safe design decisions.
