Net Effort Missing Panel Budget Tool

Calculate net effort missing panel budget from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Compute panels times hours and subtract missingPanelHours and excludedPanelHours, adding their shared overlap once.

Fisheries sampling effort can be expressed as net-hours, area-hours, or another declared survey unit. Exclusions and partial operation change the counted effort without automatically correcting catchability or sample bias.

Compute panels times hours and subtract missingPanelHours and excludedPanelHours, adding their shared overlap once.

When to use this tool

Use Net Effort Missing Panel Budget when you need a reproducible effort component under a supplied survey convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter panels, hours, missingPanelHours, excludedPanelHours, sharedMissingExcluded. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read grossEffort, usableEffort. Use the output convention below.

Compute panels times hours and subtract missingPanelHours and excludedPanelHours, adding their shared overlap once. Validate nonnegative compatible exclusions and a usable-effort remainder.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Output uses panel-hours; overlap must be supplied correctly and no missing-panel reconstruction or catchability correction is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete survey design and suitable detection or catchability methods when estimating population abundance.
