Description

Multiply nonnegative netArea by hours and functioningFraction in [0, 1] for areaHours.

Fisheries sampling effort can be expressed as net-hours, area-hours, or another declared survey unit. Exclusions and partial operation change the counted effort without automatically correcting catchability or sample bias.

Multiply nonnegative netArea by hours and functioningFraction in [0, 1] for areaHours.

When to use this tool

Use Net Effort Time Area Term when you need a reproducible effort component under a supplied survey convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter netArea, hours, functioningFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read areaHours. Use the output convention below.

Multiply nonnegative netArea by hours and functioningFraction in [0, 1] for areaHours.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Output is area times hours on the input area basis; it describes supplied effective effort without catchability, selectivity, or habitat coverage correction.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete survey design and suitable detection or catchability methods when estimating population abundance.
