Description
Add nonnegative diluentVolume to positive sampleVolume and divide finalVolume by sampleVolume for factor.
Solution calculations use a common volume, mass, or concentration basis. Dilution factors, weighted mixtures, and unit conversions describe different operations; their directions and assumptions must be explicit.
Add nonnegative diluentVolume to positive sampleVolume and divide finalVolume by sampleVolume for factor.
When to use this tool
Use Solution Sample Dilution Factor when you need one supplied solution or concentration-balance component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter sampleVolume, diluentVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read finalVolume, factor. Use the output convention below.
Add nonnegative diluentVolume to positive sampleVolume and divide finalVolume by sampleVolume for factor.1

|---|---|---|
| sampleVolume | Sample Volume | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| diluentVolume | Diluent Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| finalVolume | Final Volume | Required. Finite number. |
| factor | Factor | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Volumes share units and are assumed additive; this returns a dilution factor without applying it to concentration or assessing mixing chemistry.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
