Description
Divide nonnegative volumeFlow by positive width times depth for meanVelocity.
Flow calculations relate volume, time, cross-section, velocity, and supplied model parameters. A local ratio or contribution does not by itself solve a complete hydraulic system.
Divide nonnegative volumeFlow by positive width times depth for meanVelocity.
When to use this tool
Use Hydroponic Bench Channel Flow Velocity when you need one explicit flow component with coherent units and references.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter volumeFlow, width, depth. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read meanVelocity. Use the output convention below.
Divide nonnegative volumeFlow by positive width times depth for meanVelocity.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| volumeFlow | Volume Flow | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| width | Interval or dimension span under the stated unit and endpoint convention. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| depth | Depth on the length basis stated above. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| meanVelocity | Mean Velocity | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use a rectangular wetted section and coherent volume-flow and length units; this mean term omits velocity profiles, slope, friction, and flow-regime validation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use surveyed geometry, appropriate calibration, and a complete hydraulic model for operational or design decisions.
