Description
Return gauge minus reference start and end gaps, and gauge duration minus reference duration.
Weather observation clocks and accumulation intervals can have offsets, drift, or resets. Correcting a supplied clock model differs from inferring an actual missing observation or synchronization history.
Return gauge minus reference start and end gaps, and gauge duration minus reference duration.
When to use this tool
Use Rain Accumulation Clock Gap when you need one explicit observation-time comparison or correction.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter gaugeStart, gaugeEnd, referenceStart, referenceEnd. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read startGap, endGap, durationGap. Use the output convention below.
Require ordered gauge and reference intervals. Return gauge minus reference start and end gaps, and gauge duration minus reference duration.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- All coordinates share a time basis; differences do not correct the records or establish which interval is authoritative.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check logger metadata, reference clocks, and the complete observation sequence before adjusting a data series.
