Rainfall Gauge Clock Drift Adjustment Tool

Subtract a supplied clock-fast offset plus linear drift evaluated on the recorded-time axis.

Description

Form offsetAtAnchor+driftPerTime × (recordedTime-anchorTime) for correction and subtract it from recordedTime.

Weather observation clocks and accumulation intervals can have offsets, drift, or resets. Correcting a supplied clock model differs from inferring an actual missing observation or synchronization history.

Form offsetAtAnchor+driftPerTime × (recordedTime-anchorTime) for correction and subtract it from recordedTime.

When to use this tool

Use Rainfall Gauge Clock Drift Adjustment when you need one explicit observation-time comparison or correction.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter recordedTime, anchorTime, offsetAtAnchor, driftPerTime. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read correction, correctedTime. Use the output convention below.

Form offsetAtAnchor+driftPerTime × (recordedTime-anchorTime) for correction and subtract it from recordedTime.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Times and offsets share units and driftPerTime is correction units per time unit; this linear clock model does not infer drift, timezone, or actual synchronization.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check logger metadata, reference clocks, and the complete observation sequence before adjusting a data series.
