Description

Convert reflectivityDbz to linearReflectivity as 10^(dBZ/10), then compute (linearReflectivity/A)^(1/B).

A radar reflectivity-to-rain relation uses supplied coefficients to connect logarithmic reflectivity with a rain-rate model. A one-point conversion is conditional on that relation and its unit convention.

Convert reflectivityDbz to linearReflectivity as 10^(dBZ/10), then compute (linearReflectivity/A)^(1/B).

When to use this tool

Use Radar Rain Rate Supplied Zr Point when you need to evaluate one explicit radar-rain model point.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter reflectivityDbz, coefficientA, exponentB. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read linearReflectivity, rainRate. Use the output convention below.

Require positive coefficientA and exponentB. Convert reflectivityDbz to linearReflectivity as 10^(dBZ/10), then compute (linearReflectivity/A)^(1/B).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Rain-rate units depend on the supplied Z=A·R^B coefficients and their reflectivity convention; coefficients are not selected or validated, and no radar bias or precipitation-type correction is made.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review calibration, precipitation type, attenuation, and suitable gauge comparisons before interpreting actual rainfall.
