Weir Tailwater Ratio Flag Tool

Compare a common-datum tailwater/head ratio with a supplied limit; no discharge relation is chosen.

Description

Divide nonnegative downstreamHead by positive upstreamHead and test strictly above nonnegative suppliedLimit.

Flow calculations relate volume, time, cross-section, velocity, and supplied model parameters. A local ratio or contribution does not by itself solve a complete hydraulic system.

Divide nonnegative downstreamHead by positive upstreamHead and test strictly above nonnegative suppliedLimit.

When to use this tool

Use Weir Tailwater Ratio Flag when you need one explicit flow component with coherent units and references.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter upstreamHead, downstreamHead, suppliedLimit. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read ratio, aboveSuppliedLimit. Inspect aboveSuppliedLimit before interpreting the associated values.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Heads share one crest reference and length unit; the threshold is supplied and equality does not trigger aboveSuppliedLimit. No weir capacity or submergence correction is calculated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use surveyed geometry, appropriate calibration, and a complete hydraulic model for operational or design decisions.
