Description
Divide nonnegative downstreamHead by positive upstreamHead for submergence.
Flow calculations relate volume, time, cross-section, velocity, and supplied model parameters. A local ratio or contribution does not by itself solve a complete hydraulic system.
Divide nonnegative downstreamHead by positive upstreamHead for submergence.
When to use this tool
Use Weir Submergence Head Ratio when you need one explicit flow component with coherent units and references.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter upstreamHead, downstreamHead. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read submergence. Use the output convention below.
Divide nonnegative downstreamHead by positive upstreamHead for submergence.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| upstreamHead | Upstream Head | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| downstreamHead | Downstream Head | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| submergence | Submergence | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use compatible head references and units; ratios above one are retained and no discharge equation, flow regime, or weir-specific correction is selected.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use surveyed geometry, appropriate calibration, and a complete hydraulic model for operational or design decisions.
