Soil Storage Deficit One Layer Tool

Calculate soil storage deficit one layer from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Multiply nonnegative depth by targetWaterFraction-measuredWaterFraction, both in [0, 1], for signedDeficit and clip only positiveDeficit at zero.

Groundwater components relate hydraulic head, storage, porosity, and supplied flow parameters. A local equation uses a declared aquifer model; it does not establish that model from field observations.

Multiply nonnegative depth by targetWaterFraction-measuredWaterFraction, both in [0, 1], for signedDeficit and clip only positiveDeficit at zero.

When to use this tool

Use Soil Storage Deficit One Layer when you need one explicit groundwater or soil-storage component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter depth, targetWaterFraction, measuredWaterFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedDeficit, positiveDeficit. Use the output convention below.

Multiply nonnegative depth by targetWaterFraction-measuredWaterFraction, both in [0, 1], for signedDeficit and clip only positiveDeficit at zero.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Fractions are volumetric water fractions on the same soil-volume basis; the output is water-equivalent depth, not a crop-specific irrigation recommendation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use suitable field measurements, aquifer assumptions, and a complete groundwater analysis for resource or safety decisions.
