Description
Use currentLevel-referenceLevel as height change.
Ideal water-storage and channel geometry uses dimensions, areas, and displacement fractions. Coherent length units determine areas and volumes; actual irregular geometry and hydraulic behavior require additional information.
Use currentLevel-referenceLevel as height change.
When to use this tool
Use Reservoir Level Area Storage Term when you need one explicit geometric component of a tank, bed, conduit, or channel.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter referenceStorage, referenceLevel, currentLevel, referenceArea, areaSlope. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read currentArea, storage. Use the output convention below.
Use currentLevel-referenceLevel as height change. Return referenceArea+areaSlope × height change and integrate that linear area relation from referenceStorage for storage.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- Areas at both supplied levels must be nonnegative; areaSlope is area per height and storage can still be negative. This local model does not validate a reservoir curve or extrapolation range.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
