Description
Average nonnegative lowerArea and upperArea and multiply by nonnegative heightDifference for storageIncrement.
Ideal water-storage and channel geometry uses dimensions, areas, and displacement fractions. Coherent length units determine areas and volumes; actual irregular geometry and hydraulic behavior require additional information.
Average nonnegative lowerArea and upperArea and multiply by nonnegative heightDifference for storageIncrement.
When to use this tool
Use Reservoir Layer Storage Increment when you need one explicit geometric component of a tank, bed, conduit, or channel.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter lowerArea, upperArea, heightDifference. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read meanArea, storageIncrement. Use the output convention below.

| heightDifference | Height Difference | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| meanArea | Mean Area | Required. Finite number. |
| storageIncrement | Storage Increment | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use coherent area and length units; the trapezoidal layer approximation assumes linearly changing area and does not reconstruct an entire reservoir-storage curve.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
