Description
Return hits/eligiblePoints, referenceArea times that fraction, and excludedPoints/(eligible+excluded).
Histology counting uses eligible objects, sampled areas, exclusions, and reference planes. The chosen denominator and boundary rules affect the result, while actual object identification and sampling validity require separate review.
Return hits/eligiblePoints, referenceArea times that fraction, and excludedPoints/(eligible+excluded).
When to use this tool
Use Stereology Point Count Area Fraction when you need one supplied counting or support component under an explicit protocol.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter hits, eligiblePoints, excludedPoints, referenceArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read fraction, estimatedArea, excludedFraction. Use the output convention below.
Require positive eligiblePoints, hits within it, nonnegative excludedPoints, and nonnegative referenceArea. Return hits/eligiblePoints, referenceArea times that fraction, and excludedPoints/(eligible+excluded).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| hits | Hits | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| eligiblePoints | Eligible Points | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| excludedPoints | Excluded Points | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| referenceArea | Positive area on the same measurement basis as the sampled area. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| fraction | Dimensionless fraction on the stated basis; 0.1 represents 10%. | Required. Finite number. |
| estimatedArea | Estimated Area | Required. Finite number. |
| excludedFraction | Excluded Fraction | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Eligible points already exclude the separate excluded group; area estimation assumes appropriate point sampling without verifying stereological design or clinical interpretation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
