Description
Measure a slide-scan focus coordinate's signed reference offset.
Histology records connect specimen/cassette/slide identity, section position, image calibration, stain references and evaluable area. Linear and area scales differ, and section pitch is not automatically thickness. Supplied measurements and labels do not inspect tissue, validate preparation or establish a diagnosis.
Measure a slide-scan focus coordinate's signed reference offset.
When to use this tool
Use Slide Scan Focus Plane Offset when you already have referenceZ, scanFocusZ and need to measure a slide-scan focus coordinate's signed reference offset.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter referenceZ, scanFocusZ. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.
Return scanFocusZ-referenceZ in a common length/origin convention.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| referenceZ | Reference Z | Required. Finite number. |
| scanFocusZ | Scan Focus Z | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| signedGap | Signed Gap | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- No image focus, calibration, section geometry or suitable scan plane is assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Reconcile original specimen and processing records with calibrated images and the complete analytical method. Keep evaluable-area, control and section-depth definitions explicit; local ratios, identifier splits and nominal scales do not validate anatomical or diagnostic conclusions.
