Description
Square and cube retention for area and volume factors and divide the observations by those factors.
Histology images and sections have pixel scales, physical dimensions, cutting indexes, and processing changes. Geometric arithmetic depends on those conventions and does not identify tissue or establish diagnostic adequacy.
Square and cube retention for area and volume factors and divide the observations by those factors.
When to use this tool
Use Histology Shrinkage Linear Area Factor when you need one explicit histology image-scale or section-geometry component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter linearRetention, observedArea, observedVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read areaRetention, volumeRetention, originalArea, originalVolume. Use the output convention below.
Require positive linearRetention and nonnegative observedArea and observedVolume. Square and cube retention for area and volume factors and divide the observations by those factors.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- Retention is observed/original linear size and may exceed one; the correction assumes isotropic scaling and does not estimate actual tissue distortion.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
