Histology Mounted Section Count Balance Tool

Calculate histology mounted section count balance from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return the unaccounted remainder and mounted/cut.

Histology counting uses eligible objects, sampled areas, exclusions, and reference planes. The chosen denominator and boundary rules affect the result, while actual object identification and sampling validity require separate review.

Return the unaccounted remainder and mounted/cut.

When to use this tool

Use Histology Mounted Section Count Balance when you need one supplied counting or support component under an explicit protocol.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter cut, discarded, reserved, mounted. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read unaccounted, mountedFraction. Use the output convention below.

Require positive cut and nonnegative discarded, reserved, and mounted counts whose sum fits cut. Return the unaccounted remainder and mounted/cut.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Categories must be disjoint and use one cutting session; reconciliation does not establish diagnostic tissue adequacy or explain lost sections.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the full stereological or image-analysis method and appropriate professional interpretation before drawing a tissue conclusion.
