Description
Return left-right, that difference divided by total observed count, and completeSides only when both missing counts are zero.
Animal research counts and identifiers depend on observation, category, and sampling conventions. Unknown intervals, repeated IDs, and corrected signals should retain their distinct meanings rather than being silently treated as complete observations.
Return left-right, that difference divided by total observed count, and completeSides only when both missing counts are zero.
When to use this tool
Use Reptile Scale Left Right Asymmetry Term when you need a bounded count, timing, identifier, or supplied-reference component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter leftCount, rightCount, missingLeft, missingRight. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read observedDifference, completeSides, normalizedDifference. Inspect completeSides before interpreting the associated values.
Require nonnegative integer side and missing counts with positive observed left-plus-right total. Return left-right, that difference divided by total observed count, and completeSides only when both missing counts are zero.1

| missingLeft | Missing Left | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| missingRight | Missing Right | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| observedDifference | Observed Difference | Required. Safe integer. |
| completeSides | Complete Sides | Required. Boolean. |
| normalizedDifference | Normalized Difference | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Missing counts are not imputed into the asymmetry ratio; measurement comparability and biological significance are not established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect original records and the full observation method before inferring abundance, species identity, or biological significance.
