Herpetofauna Detection Timebin Share Tool

Time-bin encounter scaling under explicitly assumed constant effort and detection rate.

Loading tool…

Description

Return time share, detections per bin minute, and detections scaled to the full period.

Wildlife survey effort can use observer-hours, trap-nights, observation windows, or repeated visits. Equivalent effort applies a declared reporting rule and does not automatically correct detection probability.

Return time share, detections per bin minute, and detections scaled to the full period.

When to use this tool

Use Herpetofauna Detection Timebin Share when you need one explicit herpetological survey-effort component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter detections, binMinutes, totalObservationMinutes. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read timeShare, detectionsPerMinute, fullPeriodEquivalent. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative integer detections, positive binMinutes, and totalObservationMinutes at least the bin duration. Return time share, detections per bin minute, and detections scaled to the full period.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • FullPeriodEquivalent assumes the bin's rate continues across the period; it is not an observed total or a correction for time-varying animal detection.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
