Frog Call Pulse Interval Rate Term Tool

N pulses span N-1 onset intervals; rate excludes the endpoint-counting bias of N divided by first-to-last duration.

Description

Use pulses-1 intervals, divide onset span by that count, and return its reciprocal as pulseRate.

Animal research counts and identifiers depend on observation, category, and sampling conventions. Unknown intervals, repeated IDs, and corrected signals should retain their distinct meanings rather than being silently treated as complete observations.

Use pulses-1 intervals, divide onset span by that count, and return its reciprocal as pulseRate.

When to use this tool

Use Frog Call Pulse Interval Rate Term when you need a bounded count, timing, identifier, or supplied-reference component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter pulses, firstOnset, lastOnset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read intervalCount, meanInterval, pulseRate. Use the output convention below.

Require at least two pulses and lastOnset after firstOnset. Use pulses-1 intervals, divide onset span by that count, and return its reciprocal as pulseRate.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Onsets share a time unit; pulses must belong to one sequence and average interval does not describe within-call timing, species identity, or temperature effects.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect original records and the full observation method before inferring abundance, species identity, or biological significance.
