Amphibian Transect Distance Effort Term Tool

Observed transect encounter rates and nominal searched strip area, without detection correction.

Loading tool…

Description

Return distance × width, observations/distance, and observations/duration.

Wildlife survey effort can use observer-hours, trap-nights, observation windows, or repeated visits. Equivalent effort applies a declared reporting rule and does not automatically correct detection probability.

Return distance × width, observations/distance, and observations/duration.

When to use this tool

Use Amphibian Transect Distance Effort Term when you need one explicit herpetological survey-effort component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter distance, searchedWidth, duration, observations. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read searchedArea, encounterPerDistance, observationsPerTime. Use the output convention below.

Require positive distance and duration, nonnegative searchedWidth, and integer observations. Return distance × width, observations/distance, and observations/duration.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Length and time units determine output units; zero searched width is accepted and counts are not detection-corrected or population estimates.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
