Tincture to Modern RGB Reference Converter
Convert a tincture to a numeric sRGB byte triple from an independently verified caller palette/edition. Validate every palette entry including unqueried rows, retain palette identity, reject unknown tinctures and fractional bytes. No universal heraldic colour, live chart, print-profile conversion or authoritative palette fabricated; example is an illustrative caller palette.
Description
Heraldic tinctures are named categories rather than one universally fixed RGB palette.
Heraldic tinctures are named categories rather than one universally fixed RGB palette.1
A digital color lookup therefore needs a declared palette and exact byte values.
When to use Tincture to Modern RGB Reference Converter
Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
How to use Tincture to Modern RGB Reference Converter and understand its results
- Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
- Enter callerVerifiedPaletteId, callerVerifiedTinctureNames, callerVerifiedSrgbByteTriples, queryTincture, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.paletteId, result.srgbBytes, using the output meanings and calculation rules below.
- Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| callerVerifiedPaletteId | Verified palette/edition | string | Required |
| callerVerifiedTinctureNames | Verified tincture names | list of string | Required |
| callerVerifiedSrgbByteTriples | Verified sRGB byte triples | numeric matrix | Required |
| queryTincture | Query tincture; use the exact reference token or coordinate domain stated below | string | Required |
Provide a nonblank palette ID, nonempty aligned unique nonblank tincture names and three-column sRGB byte rows. Every component must be a safe integer 0..255, including unqueried rows. Match one tincture name exactly and return the supplied palette ID and a copied RGB triple. Unknown names fail.
result={paletteId:callerPaletteId,rgbBytes:triples[indexOf(names, query)]} Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Calculated observation or reference | object |
| result.paletteId | palette Id | string |
| result.srgbBytes | srgb Bytes | list |

} Limitations and assumptions
The palette is supplied rather than certified or loaded from a standard. No color-profile conversion, perceptual matching or historical authenticity is determined.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related step, use Hatching System Line-Angle Tincture Encoder: Monochrome hatching represents tinctures using line directions, blank areas and stippling under a specified convention. For a complementary comparison, use Hatching Line Angle to Tincture Decoder: Decoding hatching requires both line directions and stippling because different tinctures can have no lines.
