Hatching System Line-Angle Tincture Encoder

Encode seven standard tinctures in common Petra Sancta hatching (Fox-Davies, A Complete Guide to Heraldry). Angles clockwise from viewer x-right in y-down coordinates, modulo 180; blank argent, dotted or, crossed sable. No furs/proper, jurisdictional authenticity, line spacing or universal historical hatching claim.

Description

Monochrome hatching represents tinctures using line directions, blank areas and stippling under a specified convention.

Line angle alone cannot distinguish every tincture, especially the metals.

When to use Hatching System Line-Angle Tincture Encoder

Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.

How to use Hatching System Line-Angle Tincture Encoder and understand its results

  1. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
  2. Enter tincture, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
  3. Read result.lineAnglesDegrees, result.stippled, using the output meanings and calculation rules below.
  4. Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.

Limitations and assumptions

This bounded convention covers seven tinctures and uses blank/stippled metals. It does not generate artwork or support furs, nonstandard patterns or source-specific alternatives.

Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.

Alternative or Complementary methods

For a related step, use Hatching Line Angle to Tincture Decoder: Decoding hatching requires both line directions and stippling because different tinctures can have no lines. For a complementary comparison, use Tincture to Modern RGB Reference Converter: Heraldic tinctures are named categories rather than one universally fixed RGB palette.
