Hatching Line Angle to Tincture Decoder
Match a complete independently observed line-angle/stippling pattern to seven common Petra Sancta tinctures, sharing the encoder reference. Angles clockwise from viewer x-right in y-down coordinates, modulo 180, exact comparisons; unrecognized valid patterns return no match. No automatic image extraction, historical authenticity or inferred missing stippling.
Description
Decoding hatching requires both line directions and stippling because different tinctures can have no lines.
When to use Hatching Line Angle to Tincture Decoder
Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
How to use Hatching Line Angle to Tincture Decoder and understand its results
- Establish the source tradition, viewing frame, coordinate units and independently annotated features.
- Enter lineAnglesDegrees, stippled, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.matchingTinctures, using the output meanings and calculation rules below.
- Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| lineAnglesDegrees | Observed line angles | list of number | Required |
| stippled | Observed stippling | boolean | Required |
Supply at most four distinct finite angles in [0,180) and a stippling boolean. Sort angles ascending and compare exact angles, list length and stippling with each fixed pattern. Return all matching tincture tokens; an unmatched valid pattern returns an empty list. Empty angle lists are allowed.
| Tincture | Clockwise angles in degrees | Stippled |
|---|---|---|
| or | [] | true |
| argent | [] | false |
| gules | [90] | false |
| azure | [0] | false |
| sable | [0,90] | false |
| vert | [45] | false |
| purpure | [135] | false |
matches={tincture:sortedObservedAngles=patternAngles and observedStippling=patternStippling} Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Calculated observation or reference | object |
| result.matchingTinctures | matching Tinctures | list |

Angles must already be normalized; 180 degrees is rejected rather than converted to zero. There is no angle tolerance, line detection or image analysis.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related step, use Hatching System Line-Angle Tincture Encoder: Monochrome hatching represents tinctures using line directions, blank areas and stippling under a specified convention. For a complementary comparison, use Monochrome Print Suitability Checker: Monochrome suitability depends on measurable reproduction criteria and the chosen print process.
